History of Alrode.

The town of Alberton is situated 6 km west from Germiston and 11km south-east from Johannesburg. It was laid out on the Farm, Elandsfontein in 1904 with General Hendrick Abraham Alberts as its namesake after he purchased it for a syndicate that year. Today this area remains very exclusive; some famous South Africans who live there are Japie Mulder (Springbok rugby player); Arnold Vosloo (Actor) Carl Niehaus (Politician), Andrew Hall(Protea Cricketer). As well as Bernadette Coston: Protean hockey player!

The only reason for Alberton’s location is its proximity to the major Population centre. It has large Industrial Areas, and has become a part of the Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Municipality, together with other towns such as Germiston, Bedfordview and Edenvale. There are several shopping centres in Alberton where you can find anything your heart desires- from clothes like H&M or Zara all the way down to food franchises such as KFC or Burger King! In addition there are libraries, clinics (including The Heart Institute), hospitals (such as Baragwanath Hospital) and entertainment facilities that provide something fun for everyone who wants it.

The construction of the Alberton Boulevard was a major development started in late 1980s to convert Voortrekker Road running past the city mall into a pedestrian-friendly zone. The town’s initial center of development is now known as “Old” Alberton, with an elevation 1,570 meters above sea level.

Alberton is the most populated city in Southern Africa. The suburb’s 19 suburbs are Aarton, Alberante, Albertsdal, Alberton North, Brackenhurst, Brackendowns (the largest), Florentia and General Albert Park among others. New Redruth was established as a mining town while Randhart became an industrial area after it had been inhabited by Afrikaans settlers for many years before becoming home to whites who were displaced due to apartheid-era restrictions on land ownership or access thereto.

Residents of the original black Settlement in Alberton were removed to surrounding townships during Apartheid, and a new suburb was established around the dam called Verwoerdpark.

In 1943, Alberton’s municipal council purchased Roodekop farm to make room for the industrial area of Alrode. The now iconic “blou Meul” store was established in 1954 and is still going strong today on van Riebeek street. In the 1950s, local amenities such as maternity wards and libraries were being set up quickly – all within a 10 year span that saw close-knit communities grow with stronger social ties than ever before!
